II II VI
The experience of smoke and charcoal.
II II VI is for those who love the taste of red meat cooked on charcoal and the rugged yet refined atmosphere of a steakhouse. Bringing this concept to life meant designing a space that truly captured the essence of steak. It had to be just as unique and memorable as the chef’s innovative approach to preparing meat. From the Art Deco-inspired bar to the open kitchen, every detail was designed to create an unforgettable dining experience.
The Brief.
As a brand new brand located on the iconic Flinders Lane, II II VI’s creators envisioned a refined steakhouse hidden beneath a wine and cocktail lounge. The method of heating the charcoals, placing them into the grill ready for the meat sounds so theatrical in nature, we knew an open kitchen was essential for this project. The ritual of heating charcoal and preparing the grill felt like a performance in itself, making an open kitchen an essential part of the design.
Located beneath Ministry of Crab on Flinders Lane — a space we also designed — the basement naturally lent itself to the feel of a smoky lounge, the kind of place Ernest Hemingway might have called home.
From here, the vision quickly took shape. Near the entrance, we created a striking stone bar where guests can soak in the steakhouse atmosphere. Towards the back, the focus shifts entirely to the dining experience, where every detail puts the spotlight on the meat.

Project Highlights.
Tunnel Entry
The journey begins as guests walk beneath a massive bull sculpture, setting the tone for what’s to come. The bold colour palette, inspired by the rich tones of steak, unfolds here — deep reds, blues, blacks, and greys creating an evocative mood. The tunnel leads to the front room, where a stunning stone bar takes centre stage
Client testimonial.
“Janine and Eid really understood our brand concept, our DNA, and translated that into amazing restaurant spaces. She was always easy to get in touch with and eager to bounce ideas off. An inspiring experience.”
— Harsha Kumarasingha, Managing Director at H&J Prime Group
Open Kitchen
As a new concept, this style of open cooking came with its challenges. However, we understood the client’s vision, giving guests a front-row seat to the chefs at work. To bring this to life, we placed the open kitchen at the heart of the space.
Deco Feature Bar
The Deco bar, crafted from deep blue feature stone, offers a subtle yet striking contrast to the space's warm colour palette. Its Deco-inspired design adds a touch of sophistication with a hint of nostalgia, evoking the charm of a bygone era. The atmosphere draws on the idea of a smoky lounge, capturing the essence of a world that feels both timeless and lost
